Another Holiday - Yes !

Posted: 15-05-2008 16:59:01
I'm off again this weekend, for 2 whole weeks of loveliness. When I return I will also have a new landscaped back garden. (And I’m down to 81kg !!! So I can now wear my Speedos on the beach)

Bitten

Posted: 12-05-2008 10:27:13
With the nice warm weather we have been having, I have spent a lot of time in the garden. But despite me spraying myself with tropical strength insect repellent, I have been bitten about 20 times in various places. I must be tasty.

Big Trak

Posted: 09-05-2008 10:01:23
My parents were clearing out their loft and found my Big Trak. I loved that toy when I was a kid. I still have the box and instructions, and it works perfectly despite being 30 years old.

Cottage Cheese

Posted: 08-05-2008 13:03:45
I have been having lots of cottage cheese lately (the food version) I'm starting to like those wet white creamy lumps going down my throat.

Wales

Posted: 06-05-2008 13:40:36

Losing it

Posted: 01-05-2008 12:27:00
I have now lost 9kg in weight. It's amazing. I'm not doing a Prescott, I'm doing it properly. Just low calorie good food and no booze.

I'm getting stretch marks on my bum though. I wish I had a bigger bum.

Pressure Washer !

Posted: 28-04-2008 10:28:20
I used the pressure washer on my back yard on Sunday. Look how clean it has become:

Minty's eye

Posted: 25-04-2008 15:42:52
My little cat (Minty) has a scratch on his eyeball. It looks quite painful. He has been to the vet and is on the mend. He has been wearing a big collar thing, and I have had to lock the cat flap (and install a litter tray)

Poor Minty.

iPod touch

Posted: 23-04-2008 09:50:50
I am blogging today on my new iPod touch.

It doesn't mean that I'll be blogging any more than normal.

(they are great as a PDA, they beat the pants off windows mobile devices for usability)

Tea Tree

Posted: 21-04-2008 10:11:44
I am getting spots !

Tea Tree oil seems to be doing the trick.

BBC iPlayer on my Wii

Posted: 18-04-2008 13:27:03
I tried out the BBC iPlayer on my Wii last night. I was quite impressed overall. The only slight niggle was the absence of a Full-Screen option. I zoomed in so the programme covered most of the screen, but there were still browser icons at the bottom of the screen and a blank space around the video.

I think this has something to do with the Flash Player in the Wii browser only being version 7. Hopefully this will be updated sometime when adobe release the SDK for flash 8 & 9.

Updating Windows

Posted: 17-04-2008 12:36:02
You will all be very happy to hear that I have installed Windows' Vista Service Pack 1 on to 3 computers now, and it all went fine.

Relax.

Clever Squirrel

Posted: 15-04-2008 13:00:04
Whilst off sick last week, I spent a lot of time watching the birds in the garden (rock & roll !). We have a squirrel that comes to steal the bird food. He is so clever - now matter what I do to try and stop him, he figures out some sneaky manoeuvre to get to the food.

Be back soon

Posted: 14-04-2008 12:14:38
I've been off sick for over a week now.

I'll be back very soon (tomorrow hopefully). I have lost 4 kg in 2 weeks (thats a good thing !)

Cut the lawn...

Posted: 03-04-2008 13:09:35
...We cut our lawn for the first time this year. I do love the smell of freshly cut grass.

The mice (Les souris)

Posted: 31-03-2008 10:03:33
Well.....I suppose if you have a french farmhouse in the middle of nowhere you are going to have mice around....

I pulled back the covers on my bed to find that the little blighters have nested in the duvet undisturbed for a year !

I sorted it out and replaced all the bedding with new stuff.

off to France

Posted: 20-03-2008 15:50:39
I wont be blogging for a while, i'm off to france for a week to eat crap French cheese.

B&Q

Posted: 17-03-2008 16:54:14
I hate B & Q.

Every time I go there for something, they have not got it in stock. There is always a big gap on the shelves where the item should be.

Their website is also rubbish and slow.

Washing Machine

Posted: 12-03-2008 14:10:00
Crisis.... My Washing machine broke down on Sunday.... Panic, Panic, Panic !

It turns out that because it is made by Hoover, it has a 5 year parts warranty. Sorted...fixed. I'm clean again.

My Birthday on Easter Sunday

Posted: 10-03-2008 10:39:59
Easter is early this year. In fact Easter Sunday is on the same day as my birthday this year.

I don't remember having my birthday on Easter before, so decided to look it up. It is quite a complicated calculation based moon phases.

Easter date facts :

Easter won't fall on my birthday again until 2160

The earliest possible date for Easter is 22nd March, which last happened in 1818

The cycle of Easter dates repeats after exactly 5,700,000 years.

Media Centre dead

Posted: 06-03-2008 16:47:37
There was me a couple of weeks ago saying how happy I was having a media centre PC running my TV at home. Last week the hard drive broke (give a crunching scraping sound - completely dead)

Now.... just to rub salt into my wounds, the LCD TV has also now died. Everything has gone green.

So I'm back to a CRT and freeview box.

Boots - wasting my lunch hour.

Posted: 04-03-2008 14:16:57
I just went into Boots (the chemist). I was standing in the rather long queue for about 10 mins when i realised that all the tills in the shop had broken down. There was an announcement over the loudspeaker that it is taking 10 minutes PER CUSTOMER to process their purchases !!!!!

It was bedlam, everyone was getting irate and abusive and people were just dropping things on the floor and walking out of the shop.

I think they should have closed the store.

I obviously gave up and walked out.

Mark & Sadie

Posted: 03-03-2008 15:29:53
I'm so happy for Mark & Sadie. They are going to make great parents.

My Green box

At home, I have (at last) been given a recycling box by the council. How exciting.

Decorating in France again

Posted: 25-02-2008 11:11:21
I'm off to France again in a few weeks. I'll be decorating more of the house. I'm buying all the stuff in England as French DIY stores are rubbish. Also for some reason, paint is ridiculously expensive in France compared to the UK.

I'm also taking some decent English cheese with me as most French cheese is creamy and lightweight.

funny..

Posted: 22-02-2008 15:33:33
The new series of 'That Mitchell and Webb Look' started last night. Excellent as usual.

Windows Media Centre TV

Posted: 19-02-2008 09:57:18
I now have (fully working at last) a windows media centre based TV in my living room. It is going to change my life.

In fact, I also have 2 other media centre systems up and running at home too, all sharing the same media and TV. I now have another reason not to leave the house.

BluRay seems to have won..

Posted: 18-02-2008 15:47:28
... Looks like Blu-Ray has won the battle in the HD format wars. Toshiba have announced they will drop the HDDVD format.

Now all is needed is for the players to start becoming affordable (less than £100).

100,000,000

Posted: 15-02-2008 17:25:34
Microsoft have now sold 100 million copies of Windows Vista !

Jean Michelle Jarre

Posted: 11-02-2008 11:01:15
Jean Michelle Jarre is playing at the Symphony Hall in Birmingham on March 27th. He will be playing his Oxygene suite in full.

Food miles - Peas

Posted: 06-02-2008 10:14:11
... I had Sugarsnap Peas last night (amongst other things). The packet said "China" as the country of origin !

I'm not complaining, they tasted great. The 6000+ mile journey was well worth it !

Posted: 04-02-2008 10:50:28

I have nothing to say today.

Look at some cats in sinks instead.

My new DVD player...

Posted: 28-01-2008 13:02:31
... It was cheap as chips (actually chips are not that cheap anymore), and it plays anything you throw at it, and it has a USB connector and SD card slot. Yee Haaa !

It is ugly though.

Crazy London Roads

Posted: 25-01-2008 15:54:04
It took us 6 hours (!!!!) to drive to London on Wednesday. There was a bad accident just in front of us on the A40 near white city. This closed the road. The resulting detour was a nightmare.

Atonement

Posted: 23-01-2008 13:24:53
I watched Atonement the other day. I was really very impressed. It is a fantastic film. (A little sad though)

Corrie

Posted: 21-01-2008 09:25:10
Friday’s Coronation Street was a real tear jerker. Vera Duckworth died.

Other news... I have had a rubbish weekend. I have been puking (etc). I have had 'the bug'. I am solid state again now thankfully.

Spots and mouth ulcers

Posted: 16-01-2008 15:34:41
I keep getting spots on my forehead and ulcers in my mouth. I can't be getting enough vitamins or something.

League of Gentlemen...

Posted: 14-01-2008 13:12:20
... "The League of Gentlemen Apocalypse" film was on TV over Christmas. I recorded it, and didn’t get around to watching it until yesterday.

My god, what a truly awful film it is. Completely pointless. everything about it was absolute drivel !

(I think Mark might have said virtually the same thing in his blog a few months ago. - Mark I agree totally !)

Phrases I hate...

Posted: 11-01-2008 11:47:14

"I hear what you are saying but..."

"Can I ask you a question"

Chickens

Posted: 09-01-2008 10:19:27
Apparently, 45 million chickens are killed each year because they're not fattening up, or are sick.

If only they could make those 45 million chickens fatter, or healthy...that would mean we could probably produce chickens even cheaper, perhaps for £1.50 each !

Actually, those chickens that are killed are NEVER thrown away, they are used for other things e.g. animal food. So at least they are not wasted.

Yazoo

Posted: 07-01-2008 09:19:30
I hear that Yazoo (Vince Clarke & Alison Moyet) are going to re-form to play some concerts promoting the re-issue of their re-mastered albums in 2008. (25 year anniversary!)

Jam & Jerusalem

Posted: 04-01-2008 16:32:07
I tried to watch the first series last year, but didn't get into it until.....

... May 2007, I was stuck in a house in Japan (that's a long story) with nothing to do and no proper TV (and no internet!!). One of the only things I had was a DVD of the complete first series. I now think it is fantastic, genius in fact.

So I am delighted to see that a second series was made. Episode 2 is on tonight, I can't wait.

It's over

Posted: 02-01-2008 10:20:02
Back to work today. The silly Christmas festivities are over at last.

And (apparently) the days are getting longer.

Heston's xmas dinner

Posted: 21-12-2007 09:32:24
I watched Heston Blumenthal's perfect Christmas. He was, as usual answering questions absolutely nobody asked. Food looked nice.

I particularly liked Rob Brydon's mention of Little Chef.

Fairytale....

Posted: 20-12-2007 09:42:30
I had a "heated debate" about this last night at home.

I have decided to change my stance slightly on the F word in this particular song....

The song is comedy, and political incorrectness in comedy is comedy (most of the time).

OK, I have been converted..... I was a pathetic 'Mary Whitehouse' yesterday.

(Still think its a bad song though, I would prefer x-factor winner to be number 1 at Christmas, or Shaun the sheep)

Fairytale of New York...

Posted: 19-12-2007 11:09:25
... Shameful. I am completely against the use of the "F#####" word anywhere. It is an offensive word, no matter who it is said to or who says it.

(and its a rubbish song)

Christmas Tree

Posted: 17-12-2007 10:24:03
I got my Christmas Tree yesterday. There was a slight panic in the morning as I went to 3 places to buy the tree and the didn't have anything decent left (only the ugly misshapen trees that no-one else wanted).

I went over to Cannock to buy one in the afternoon. There were plenty of trees left over there, and they were all fresh and pretty. (I didn’t nick it from Cannock chase, I got it from a farm shop !)

Funny Film

Posted: 14-12-2007 08:54:17
I watched "Magicians" last night. It stars Robert Webb & David Mitchell (Mitchell & Webb) It's not very often (these days) that films make me happy, but this one was a delight.

Highly recommended !

Some words by Yoko..

Posted: 13-12-2007 11:38:21
I thought I should treat you all to 2 poems by Yoko Ono:

MASK PIECE I

Make a mask larger than your face.
Polish the mask every day.
In the morning, wash the mask instead of your face.
When somebody wants to kiss you,
let the person kiss the mask instead.

1961 winter

MASK PIECE II

Make a mask smaller than your face.
Let it drink wine instead of you.

1962 summer

Fashion tips for 2008..

Posted: 12-12-2007 16:01:15
T-shirts are the hot fashion item, along with sweatshirts & jumpers. Team them with shorts for a bold combination! Trousers will also be big. As far as footwear, its either shoes or trainers. But the really big news is jeans ; classic with a twist. Evening wear : shirts for blokes ; skirts or dresses for girls.

British Comedy on German Television.

Posted: 11-12-2007 09:44:16
Did you know that every new year's eve in Germany, most people sit down and watch "Dinner for one" - an old British comedy sketch that is unknown in the UK.

If you ever get the chance, watch it. It is only about 15 minutes long. I enjoyed watching it.

I'm slightly worried by the thought that for the past 35 years almost everyone in Germany sits down to watch it over again.

Carrier Bags

Posted: 10-12-2007 09:46:25
You will be pleased to hear that I gave up using carrier bags a few months ago for my weekly supermarket trip, instead using 2 very large polypropylene things. It actually makes unloading the weekly shopping from the car easier too.

Hello Bulbs

Cat licking

Posted: 06-12-2007 09:57:37
Whilst getting ready for work this morning, I looked through the window to the garden and saw one of my cats with another cat. The other cat was just sitting there and my cat was licking him all over. How strange. I hope he is not being bullied. Perhaps he is in love ?

Homomorphism

Posted: 05-12-2007 16:25:52
My word of the day today is Homomorphism.

Homomorphism (from wikipedia) :

In abstract algebra, a homomorphism is a structure-preserving map between two algebraic structures (such as groups, rings, or vector spaces).

The word homomorphism comes from the Greek language: homoios meaning "same" and morphe meaning "shape".

Tune in next time and we will be discussing "Spatchcock".

Christmas Cards

Posted: 05-12-2007 09:58:40
I went out to get my Christmas cards yesterday. I bought 180 of them. It is going to take ages to write them, and cost about £50 to send them out in the post !

Relaxing weekend.

Posted: 03-12-2007 09:04:30
I did nothing but relax this weekend. I am really enjoying BBC1's Cranford on sunday evenings.

I have had a quiet weekend, hopping about the house very slowly and taking strong pain killers all day.

Xmas

Posted: 21-11-2007 12:19:54

Posted: 20-11-2007 11:27:42
.. I have gout. I blame the Sloe Gin !

Sloe Gin

Posted: 19-11-2007 16:54:29
I bought a bottle of sloe gin on saturday, to keep in stock for the festive period.

I managed to drink half of the bottle on Saturday Evening !

Another cold !

Posted: 13-11-2007 12:04:11
...I have another cold ! I only usually get 1 or 2 maximum per year.

I had one in January, then 3 (!) in the last 6 weeks.

I'm a right miserable git when I have a cold. Go away, leave me alone !

Diwali

Posted: 12-11-2007 15:05:22
I went to the Diwali celebrations at Millenium Point last night. I'm not a Sikh, Hindu or Jain, but I had a really nice time, the atmosphere great.

sunday football....rethink

Posted: 12-11-2007 09:40:40
You have probably heard in the news (if you are local) - There was some shameful football violence after the Birmingham vs Aston Villa match yesterday. More than 20 police were injured.

So I take back my little rant about the police being unable to marshal a Remembrance Day parade (previous blog entry). The police made the correct judgement by diverting their attention to the stupid football thugs.

Birmingham police forget remembrance day...

Posted: 09-11-2007 20:45:33

An annual remembrance day parade by a Castle Bromwich branch of the British Legion has had to be axed this year. The reason ?..... The police who normally marshal the parade are needed at the football match between Birmingham and Aston Villa that takes place on Sunday !

Disgraceful ! I think the football should be cancelled.

washing up liquid...

Posted: 09-11-2007 17:00:56
... it isn’t something I normally think about but I noticed that the 'flavours' have gone all posh. I picked up a bottle 'cucumber and lime' washing up liquid in the supermarket. How posh is that !

Holiday

Posted: 07-11-2007 11:07:44
I have something to look forward to ! I have booked next year's holiday (Thailand).

All my holidays over the past few years have been last minute bookings, so it does feel nice to have one booked and written on my calender for a change.

Now.... I only have to loose 10kg of weight so I can fit in my speedos again.

Blog hates....

Posted: 05-11-2007 09:15:56
... My sister is a primary school teacher, and she used to enjoy regularly showing our website to her class on her large projector.

The class really enjoyed reading the blogs.....until Mark went all hateful about the world and started using minor swear words in his blog. Despite the constant calls to my sister "Mrs Jones.....can we read the clevercherry blogs ?" , she just can't show it any more.

Fireworks...

Posted: 05-11-2007 09:07:33
... I didn't buy any this year. I went to an organised (if you can call it that) display. There wasn't a bar ! So I stood in the cold watching fireworks drinking tea.

Burn update

Posted: 12-10-2007 16:38:21
It is very sore and crusty, and when I get nervous, I just can't help picking the scab off.

My Home Broadband

Posted: 10-10-2007 12:11:43
My home broadband is flipping great ! It is an 'up to' 24 Meg connection (I actually get about 21 / 22 Meg, which is very good apparently) I also get a 1.3Meg upload speed !

Anyway, the price has just been reduced from £24 per month to £18 per month, making it even more sexy.

Elgar stuff

Posted: 09-10-2007 11:25:42
The Elgar concert was very good. The (refurbished) Town Hall also looks fantastic.

I have a couple of small criticisms of the Town Hall though....The signage within the building is a little confusing, and the hall itself was a little too hot and stuffy (no airflow). I'll give the venue 4½ out of 5.

Elgar

Posted: 08-10-2007 12:52:08
I'm off to see (hear) Elgar's 'We Are The Music Makers' tonight at the newly refurbished Town Hall in Birmingham.

Cheese Burn

Posted: 08-10-2007 10:30:31
I was eating a toasted cheese (various cheeses) sandwich on Saturday and some evil hot cheese escaped and dribbled down my lip. Ouch ! It was like molten lead, instantly removing the top layer of skin !

I spent most of the rest of the day with an ice pack on my mouth.

I blame the mozzarella !

I have no news....

Posted: 05-10-2007 16:19:07
...Other than ....I have ordered a quad core processor. How exciting is that ?

Shed

Posted: 17-09-2007 11:20:36
You must all be so excited to read that I have a new shed !

I spent all day Saturday painting it (twice!), then assembling it. I now ache in places I didn’t know I had muscles.

It has a solar panel on the top that charges an internal light, so I can sneak down the shed in the middle of the night to mess with my tools.

Memory foam

Posted: 11-09-2007 09:47:48
I have a new memory foam (visco-elastic foam) mattress at home, and also a memory foam pillow.

It is very comfortable, I wish I had bought one years ago. I turn over less at night and am less grumpy during the day !

(and it is super king-size!)

Nice.

Qwerty ...

Posted: 05-09-2007 12:45:52
.. Did you know that the qwerty keyboard layout was devised to slow down typing so that old mechanical typewriters didnt jam up.

I want a Dvorak keyboard layout, so I can type faster :

David Bowie in Doctor Who

Posted: 30-08-2007 14:37:23
Apparently David Bowie will be appearing in a two part Doctor Who special.

I just hope that he wont be wearing any silly costumes and make up like Labyrinth.

(all David's make-up pre-Labyrinth was cool ok)

Blood Pressure...

Posted: 30-08-2007 11:56:46
... My blood pressure is normal every time I take it at home. As soon as I go in to the surgery and have it taken, it shoots up to a high level.

At first I though it was perhaps my sphygmomanometer being inaccurate, so I took it with me to the surgery and it gave almost identical readings as the big sphygmomanometer.

So.... Do I actually have high blood pressure, or is it just me stressing at the surgery ?

p.s. (FYI) a "Sphygmomanometer" is a blood pressure meter.

Bank Holiday

Posted: 29-08-2007 09:52:43
..My bank holiday monday was spent laying slabs ! I (we) layed 360kg of slabs, with 300kg of sand & cement !

Considering I am not very fit, it went very well indeed. The only problem is once soft hands are now like sand paper.

Tumble Dryer

Posted: 23-08-2007 10:49:23
My Tumble dryer died on Sunday, well it was still working, but was not heating up at all.

I concluded that the heating element must have failed.

It's a Hoover brand, which comes with 5 years parts warranty, (but no labour after the 1st 12 months). I phoned Hoover and asked them to send me the part so I could fit it myself, but they wouldn’t. They have to send out an engineer at a fixed cost of £95.

So.... I bought a brand new Hoover heating element from someone on ebay....fitted it and the tumble dryer works perfectly now !!!!

Ikea

Posted: 20-08-2007 09:43:39
I went to Ikea on Saturday AND Sunday. I expected it to be extremely busy on both days, and it was. On Sunday the car park was overflowing, but strangely the queues were shorter than Saturday.

Anyway, the furniture I bought was very easy to put together and looks great.

Delayed Art.

Long weekend..

I have eaten fine food and wine every day.

Photosynth

Posted: 07-08-2007 10:05:01
I have found something new ! Microsoft's Photosynth technology preview....

I can't explain it, just try it..... Click here

(I personally like the Piazza San Marco, Venice sample)

It doesn’t have as much "wow" as Google earth, but I think this is set to revolutionise the way we look at large collections of photos.

TV at last !

Posted: 03-08-2007 16:13:44
I have spent the last 10 days without a TV aerial ! It blew down in the bad weather, along with some of the gutters on the roof.

Now it is better than ever and I can watch QVC again !

It is......

Posted: 03-08-2007 15:45:51

Mouse...

Don't order from dabs.com....

Posted: 04-07-2007 17:11:19
.... I strongly urge anyone thinking of ordering from dabs.com to think again. They use a company called "Home Delivery Network".

HDN are the worst delivery company in the UK. Half the time, they don't even bother trying to deliver the goods, but simply return them to the depot. And they are rude to you when you telephone them.

Just don't use them !

Wallpaper...

Posted: 02-07-2007 09:59:14
Tip.... always order more wallpaper than you need !

Because of a couple of papering 'errors', we needed an extra roll of paper. No branches of Laura Ashley had the same batch number available anymore. So we had to do the last wall in the new batch of paper. The colour difference between batches is quite noticeable !

OMD

Carbon Footprint

Posted: 04-06-2007 12:56:39
I just calculated my "Carbon footprint", it is 32,000 kg of CO2 per year. Am I going to offset ? .... no way ! I'm going to try to get it up to 50,000 kg next year !

Moved a radiator

Posted: 03-06-2007 11:44:44
I moved a radiator from one side of a bedroom to the other !
The plumbing bit was quite simple. The difficult part was getting the floorboards up and cutting grooves into the joists to accommodate the new pipes.

Mosquitos

They had it on the hottest day of the year so far. (I said I wouldn’t mention the weather)

Should I mention the weather ? ...

So I won't mention it.

Quick week ...

Great Headphones !

Posted: 05-03-2007 16:58:08
I have just had the pleasure of trying out some Bose QC3 headphones for 30 days.

I was sceptical about them, but they are absolutely stunning.

I really wanted to keep them, but I decided that £ 275 would be better spent on my downstairs toilet renovation.

I've done it !...

Posted: 05-03-2007 16:21:36
... I joined the limited edition Marmite frenzy and purchased a jar from ebay for £8 !

Its crazy !

Guiness Marmite

I've done a Britney !

Posted: 26-02-2007 09:16:41
I am not (normally) ashamed to say that I trim my own hair with clippers..... but on Saturday morning I was in the bathroom trimming the back of my head with my new clippers when just as I lifted them to the back of the head the 'number 4' comb fell off and I didn’t notice and proceeded to shave a huge white stripe in my head !! The only thing left to do was shave it all off to match. I hate it ! This will not happen again !

Start appreciating your 4 GB memory stick! 1000 times more storage - just 2" long weighing in at one ounce.

Dead rat...

Posted: 22-01-2007 09:46:34
I found my cats playing with a rat in the hallway yesterday.... The cats managed to force the rat into the 'Rat-Electro-Kill-O-Matic'. The Rat buzzed, sparked and there was a very slight burning rat smell.

I then spent an hour mopping the floors with a bleachy solution, to be sue i was rid of ratty germs.

Flavour Shaker update....

Posted: 05-01-2007 09:33:49
I made a salad dressing with it last night. It works great so long as you put the dry ingredients in first and give them a shake before putting the oil, vinegar etc.

I'm so sorry to everyone in the world about my blog, it is boring I know. (I have so many things that I want to write, but I can't because it would probably offend people.)

(I'm very glad that no-one was hurt in the fire though)

I'm a scrubber

Posted: 13-11-2006 16:05:25
I have been on my hands and knees all weekend, scrubbing the kitchen floor tiles with a wire brush. I was removing the cementy (is that a word ?) bits that have been stuck in the textured surface of the tiles since they went down. It was a very slow process.

Once they were squeeky clean, I sealed them with a shiny shine chemical, and now they look fab !

Le Sky TV

Posted: 12-07-2006 10:11:44
I'm off to France soon. The TV is so bad in france that I am taking a Sky Digital Satellite Dish & Receiver with me. The dish is slightly larger than a normal UK one, and I only have the Freesat channels (virtually the same channels as freeview), but at least I can watch "Rue de Couronnement" and "Enders-Est ".

I will still be actively avoiding Big Brother.

I have got to fit it myself though - help !

Kitten Facts...

Posted: 25-01-2006 17:39:57
Right after the kittens are born, the mothers will clean them up and start to nurse them.

Kittens are born blind, deaf, and helpless. They must stay warm in order to survive.

Birth to 10 days: Kittens are virtually helpless. Primary focus is eating and staying warm.

Between 10 and 14 days: Eyes and ears open, allowing kittens to become more responsive to their world. Kittens can be exposed to gentle handling and new sounds. Kittens begin to stand and walk, and "baby teeth" appear.

Day 14 to Week 14: Referred to as the socialization phase, this is the most sensitive period for learning to form social relationships. Especially up to 7 weeks, kittens should have many positive experiences with humans, other cats and other species.

Kicked to Death

Posted: 15-12-2005 17:11:43
David Morley was kicked to death by a gang whilst one of them recorded it on their mobile phone. David Morley was left with 44 IMPACT INJURIES AND A RUPTURED SPLEEN !

One of the gang bragged about the killing, telling a class of youths at Feltham young offenders institution how he had jumped on Mr Morley until his head had "split open".

The gang that did this have been found not guilty of Murder, but guilty of Man Slaughter.

HOW CAN THIS NOT BE MURDER ?

Shame on our 'justice' system !!!

Bovril

Posted: 13-12-2005 10:34:17
I'm in my mid 30s and I had never tried Bovril until yesterday! I'm a vegetarian, and Bovril has always had Beef extract in it until recently..... (Well actually about a year).

The verdict.....It's virtually the same as Marmite, but less spicy (less peppery). I think I’ll stick to Marmite as it is about 40p cheaper and its thicker consistency is better suited to spreading on toast.

(oooh look - Sailors !)

Broadband from space !

Kittens on eBay

....Why can't you buy kittens on eBay ? I need a kitten, and naturally thought that I could get one off eBay, but no...Denied.
(obviously kittens can't be sent in the post, but a local listing on eBay Birmingham with collection only would have been fine)

Gouda....

Posted: 26-10-2005 16:07:14

I eventually got dragged through a narrow doorway, where I had a Soft young cheese ("jonge kaas"), very creamy.

Drop me an email if you know of any that need a good home.

Cats made a kill..

Posted: 17-06-2005 10:26:14

Robin

Posted: 10-06-2005 16:34:49
My cat keeps eating Robins, 3 in 2 weeks.

All you people that think cats are evil.....It's natural ! They have instincts to catch birds !

The cat has a bell on his collar....the Robins must be deaf.

Flash car cleaning

Posted: 06-06-2005 12:33:22
...I bought a Flash car cleaning kit on friday. It was a bit overpriced, and i was a little sceptical. (but its a gadget i just had to try !)

The conclusion is : It is acutally quite good ! I didnt have to dry the car, it did what it said on the packet. Wow !
(bear in mind that the refills equate to a will cost of about 85p per wash, so it isnt cheap)

God, i'm boring !

I'm a morning person...

Posted: 25-05-2005 16:51:16
...Every day at about 4pm, my brain slows down.

Its the bloomin' Diabetes. My blood sugar went down to 2.6 again this afternoon. I've downed some chocolate and cherry drops, and i'm back up again now, but it leaves me feeling really fuzzy.

I wish there was a cure.

It was really dull and boring, why did I do it ? I'm really tired now.

Burnin' the weeds

Posted: 06-05-2005 12:40:07
My garden was an overgrown jungle of weeds. So... last weekend I dug then all up.

I was then left with a mountain of dead weeds. So I set fire to them. It is now Friday and they are still burning ! The neighbours must hate me, everything smells of smoke.

Oh well, its done now.

Blimey he's ugly

Posted: 20-04-2005 12:31:32
The new pope looks like really wierd.

He looks like Uncle Fester !

I was wrong...

Posted: 19-04-2005 17:48:38
.. New pope (Pope Bennedict XVI), is a German (Cardinal Ratzinger of Germany).
He is an ultra conservative.

I think the next Pope will be....

Posted: 18-04-2005 16:16:38
....Wilfred Fox Napier.

He is the Archbishop of Durban, South Africa.

Fenni

Posted: 15-04-2005 10:38:21
Goa was fantastic.... hot and relaxing.

My one regret of the holiday was leaving my lovely hotel for one night, and venturing to the southern tip of Goa, where the only accommodation was a tent on the beach. It sounds romantic, but in 36 degree heat, the air conditioning back at the hotel is much more desirable.

Fenni = Spirit made from cashew nuts = undrinkable filth !

Going, going, Goa!

I'm off to India for a few weeks, I'll see you all again in the middle of April.....If you have any problems, talk to Keith!.........Taxi!

Spam levels are rising !

Posted: 18-03-2005 11:53:43
In October, 79% of all email was junk email.
In January, it had risen to 83%.

Brace yourself, it is going to get much worse throughout the coming year. In fact I predict that it will become very common for people to have all incoming mail blocked unless the sender has been pre-authorised by the recipient.

Why don’t we use Junk email filters ? simple answer - they don’t work very well ! Spammers constantly change their methods to get through the filters.

Wireless Networking...

La France

Posted: 21-02-2005 10:27:11
Ive just spent a week in cold northern France. Most small towns in north France are like ghost towns. I did enjoy it though - I took my telescope and spent many a frozen evening in the garden looking at the sky.

Kitten Update

Posted: 02-02-2005 09:49:00
....Not just yet - the big cats would see the kitten's litter tray and think 'ooh ... a nice clean toilet' - I would end up emptying the thing every few hours. I'll think again in April, there will be loads of unwanted kittens at the cat rescue's by then and i'm bound to give in to the cuteness.

Its Ladies night...

New Kitten ?

Posted: 01-02-2005 10:20:16
I have got two lovely cats - 4 year old Percy and 3 year old Basil.
I keep having new kitten cravings - Should I get a third cat ? I can't decide.
The olny down side is that a kitty litter tray will have to be put in the house somewhere.

Wasted on me...

Posted: 27-01-2005 13:15:28
I've got a cold, and i've had the bloomin' thing for 2 weeks now !

On Wednesday, I was offered some 1939 Armagnac... I gladly accepted but realised that due to my cold, i could not smell or taste it. I realise now that it was wasted on me - it is rare and costs £30 per single measure !!

"Oooh that is lovely, so smooth yet full of character" i replied.
