...the good weather has deserted us. I took my bike to the Harborne Cycle Centre yesterday which is part of the Queen Alexandra College in Harborne (caters for blindness and other disabilities). Apparantly people with visual impairments are really good at fixing bikes, don't ask me how, but i've got complete faith in them. They said it'd be ready next wednesday, but phoned today to say it was ready! So we'll see.
Looking forward to getting back on the bike, so hopefully more dry weather is on the way. I went for a 2 mile run this morning, not sure why, i felt like i needed it!
So after all that talk of exercise, i should probably go to the pub tonight.
ps. did i get away with that?!?!?
Not raining cats and dogs
Posted: 08-05-2008 13:06:52
With the nice weather we're having, we've had the bedroom window open at night!
However since last summer, the neighbourhood has acquired some new pets, there's lots of cats...some of which insist on singing at 5 in the morining. In addition, the two dogs that are close by, bark and sing late at night. The last couple of nights have thankfully been peaceful, more of the same please.

Pub, food, pub, food, pub etc.
I went to The Lord Clifden (Hockley) on Friday which was enjoyable! I went to The Kings Head (Bearwood) on Saturday which was nice. I went to The Junction (Harborne) on Sunday which was enjoyable. I went to The Barnt Green Inn (Barnt Green!) on Monday which was nice.
Nice.
Other than that, watched some snooker and footy and that was just about that!

I'm gonna vote for him.

Speaking of public services, it seems the people are just about sick of New Labour now, what with strikes here and credit crunches there, it's all there fault.
Oh, I know, let's vote Tory, they seem willing and ready to straighten out the disarray of our great nation...bloody Labour!
...six years later...
...bloody Tories are crap, i knew it, i always said it, they've messed up again. Vote Labout next time, they'll sort it out.
Is it me or does anyone else find the media circus that is politics a complete farse? I don't understand why people think voting one or the other is going to make any difference. We'll waste billions through our incompetent, ineffecient processes and management which ever way. GRrr, vote Allen's revolution!
I think we need to invest more in figures and reports, that way, lower management will feel pressured into lying about them and they'll all be pointless...great!

Advertising...

...cars has changed. Since the first Honda ads a few years ago, the competitve world of car advertising has shifted from
CLICK ME
and
CLICK ME TOO
to
AND AGAIN
I find it amusing how just a few years ago, car advertising competed to parallel a man's sex appeal with the car he drives. Yet since the genius and originality of the Honda ads, car advertisers, like a family of ducks, have desperatley tried to imitate the new benchmark style. So whilst we continue to say "cool" to the Honda campaigns, recent campiagns from Ford, Audi and fiat have begged, borrowed and stolen from the concepts first displayed in Honda ads. Even the famous dancing citreon one (which shows some originality...nothing to do with transformers???), follows the new Honda rules for car ads!
But what's driven this change, are cars not as sexy as they used to be? Do advertisers need to appeal to both sexes? Or did Honda just want to stand out from the crowd?
They have now successfully re-positioned themselves as this culturally and environmentally aware, modern, forward thinking organisation. And as with every market pioneer, they are often the one who benefits form imitators, everyone's trying to copy them, but no-one can better them! Even blue chips like Nokia and Guiness have diversified some the Honda thinking to suit their own campaigns.
Surely, creating new, inspiring, original ideas for your advertising campaign is the key to sucess?
All said and done, most of the car purchasing market probably don't care...The power of dreams eh!
Oh dear...

...did you see young Avram scratching his unimaginative, uninspiring, boring head last night when Wigan got a well deserved equaliser. Whereas SB threw caution to the wind with some brave substitions AT STAMFORD BRIDGE with 20 minutes to go. Only when Heskey slid in to equalise did AG decide to make the genius tactical decision (with 1 minute of injury time left) to bring on Andrei Shevchenko. Brilliant.

Tesco carpark
Posted: 19-03-2008 16:18:33
The tesco metro up the road has about seven cosy car parking spaces which are easily visible from all around. Even if they are obviously all taken, people still decide to drive onto the 3 square metres of tarmac to wait for a space. Only problem being no bugger can reverse to get out because Mr i'm going to park here cos i can't be bothered to walk 3 seconds to Tesco (or Subway) has pulled in, despite the obvious lack of space. Problems only spiral when Mrs i can't be bothered to walk 3 seconds to Tesco (or Subway) then decides to glide onto the tesco's 3 square tarmaced metres of dreams.
I'm sure you can imagine by now it's all getting rather close to chaos. There's reverse lights everywhere, but no-one can move very far...further spice is added to the situation when a Transit van indicates to pull onto the car park, so blocking the entrance/exit!
Nice one Tesco.

...so the weekend saw Man U and Chelsea out the cup, with Cardiff or Barnsley now guaranteed a place in the final, i'm looking forward to both semi-finals and the final, especially since Chelsea have been found out and won't be able to bore us all to death on cup final day! That said, Portsmouth appeared to have taken their place and must be favourites although the baggies have the better potential to knock them out.
As for all this talk that Christiano Ronaldo and the likes should be protected from anyone coming within 10 yards of them is ridiculous, if the game gets any more girly i may aswell start watching netball.

I hate football fans sometimes, anyone who thinks Taylor deserves to be banned or recieve death threats is over stepping the mark somewhat. ...we ventured to Swansea for most of the weekend and although it's not the most exciting place i've ever been to, i reckon we made the best of it. We drove for miles to got to a gig at a small theatre which was half full of sweaty 14 year old emo's who insisted on banging into each other in some sort of pointless affectionate ritual...i put it down to their lack of ability to dance. The other half had got so drunk on Lambrini that they couldn't stand up, so it was an experience. The bands weren't completely to my taste, but were half decent, Friends Electric (whom it was we had driven 140miles to see) appeared on stage in a Soulwax vibe which was great..as was the use of cowbells. Instrumentally, in look and in sound, they too are comparable to Soulwax on stage. Alas i didn't care much for the style of vocal, it was also a bit emo, so not my cup of tea, but apart from that, they created a great sounding atmosphere even if the little kiddies didn't get it that much!
We went out in Swansea after the gig, where i got pointed at and mocked for the style of clothes i wore (yes it's a cardigan). I got the impression some of the locals were less than cultured...bless! We found a little club that seemed to gather all the mis-fits of the town for a friendly party of soul, funk, motown and drum n bass...nice one!

...least we don't have to go through the turmoil of watching England in a major championship! The thought of which, in addition to last nights nail biting, emotional rollercoaster, got me thinking.
Why is it that our national team can encapsulate the whole nation more so any other country? The answer is Eastenders.
We love a good drama, a dramatic soap! Welcome to England's biggest television drama...our national football team, with a live cast of celebrity all star footballers, 90,000 extras and John (let's have a look at the group standing now...again...cos we can't all work it out for ourselves) Motson! This is drama of the highest calibre, with muppets like Steve MaClaren writing the script, it's bound to be an absolute corker of an episode!
I mean what horror film can force a twenty-six year old grown man to stand in the kitchen rather than watch Lampard take a penalty? The same twenty-six year old man jumped around his living room some 15 minutes later with an ecstatic glow of jubilation nearly dropping his equally ecstatic girlfriend on the floor in the process. Hollywood can't buy this sort of feeling, it's the kind of inner encapsulation that creates emotions usually reserved to lifetime landmarks, like your first kiss, or your wedding day!
Stop me if i'm rambling here, but can you imagine being a Brazilian fan, they've always got smiles on their faces...but i reckon that's mostly because it's a lovely summers day and there's a couple of half naked women sitting in the row in front. There's an air of predictability about the performance and result of most of their fixtures, one that just surely can't get the old heart beating!
So when it's chucking it down with rain and freezing cold on a Wembley Wednesday night and you can hardly catch your breath after five pints and 90 minutes of exhilaration, you know it was £50 well spent? Alright we lost, but that will be forgotton, and come the World Cup qualifiers, us English will be safe in the knowledge that we've got some highs and some lows to come, but most of all we know we're going to be riding the wave of captivating uncertainty...all the way!
COME ON ENGLAND! x

On Saturday Tiff and I ventured into Harborne as we regularly do for a spot of curry. Our usual and favourite hangout "Bangla Lounge", has always been great in terms of quality, value and service. More recently the quality of the food has dropped a bit...a new chef basically!
So we decided to check out a different curry house, "Silver Spice" (formerly Malabar) is apparently where it's at...it most certainly is! It was prime time Saturday night so no reservation meant we were stuck in the corner, this woman having an affair kept staring at us for no other reason than to be a snooty, nosey woman! And whilst the service not quite as sharp and the cost added £15 onto the bill, the food and choice was fantastic. My Tikka monkfish starter was perfect and the Bhuna was of identical supremacy to that i used to enjoy over the road! Tiff had King Prawns that were the size of a small whale, wholly justifying their £13 price tag!
So i'm happy again!
In other news: It snowed last night.

What a week. I think i got drunk nearly every night last week and ate out nearly every night too...the other two nights we had homemade food cooked for us...bliss!! We got up to all sorts of mischief, including:
- Raving at Bushwackers in Birmingham
- A retreat in the countryside
- A walk on the beach
- A visit to the Pleasure Beach
- Shopping in Manchester
- 2many djs @ the Warehouse Project

In Rugby though, one tiny mistake is much easier to make and can be far more consequential, which left me on the edge of my seat for 80 minutes...literally!

Posted: 17-09-2007 15:59:32
...good quality weekend. With the lack of football to watch and play this weekend (mostly through injury). I gladly stepped into my party shoes to celebrate Matt's birthday. A hearty Saturday daytime was had by quite a few Cherries +friends.
I enjoyed most of my beer that day, although i realised just how enjoyable a beer is, depends largely on how it is served. This was best enforced by the difference between the skanky service at the beer festival incomparison to the ale at Pennyblacks down the mailbox. One of best pints ever i think!
Quotes of the day:
"It tastes like i'm drinking lipstick"
Matt R
"I don't like it when you two gang up on me"
Alex
The laughs of the daytime continued into the evening at the Hare & Hound where we got a boogy on. Was good fun and carried on suitably late at a house party. Respect to Alex and Manda for coming down.
Highlights of the night:
Matts Speech (i can't remember it, but i'm sure it was good).
Matt getting thrown in the air 30 times.
Carrying a toothbrush with me all night.
Nearly dressing up as Kermit the frog, but we couldn't find the head.

In other news: Smokers have found a loophole in the law that allows you smoke in public places. According to one source, the back three rows of double decker buses are specifically designated to smokers who can regularly be found enjoying their favourite pastime on buses up and down the country...in Birmingham especially they enjoy smoking tobacco (and other substances such as marijuana, crack & heroin) combined with their enjoyment of simpleton music such as "bad ass" hip-hop, played through 0.125 watt sound systems. bad.

First time i went on Saturday night/Sunday morning...apparently you have to get there early to get in and as it was a lads night out we were lucky to all get in cos they're all choosy about who's "worthy" enough to come in. It doesn't really bother me that much so i was happy to wait so i could check the place out!
I had a wicked night, not least because the music was friendly and there was basically an outside room, the walls made up of the high rise offices that surrounded. Dancing al fresco in an experience you don't get often in Birmingham, so i was pretty impressed! Not even a light shower dampened the spirits! The people were friendly, the atmosphere was good....and i'm even coping with Monday morning!

Myspace.
Posted: 03-07-2007 15:47:25
I actually agree with Mark, i think it may well die on it's arse. Although it has massive potential still to carry on as a market leader, old ugly Tom has yet to do anything about it. Historically speaking, brands that establish themselves as the market leader are often unbeatable as they are directly associated with that product or service.
However, complacency could yet be there downfall. Even though millions of kids have invested their time and CSS skills in myspace...it remains that myspace is virtually the same and still crap (like what Mark said). Newer, betterer versions of Myspace like Facebook with loads more features will take over....just as Google beat all the other search engines with a service that left all others standing.
Web based brands more than offline brands must stay proactive in their quest to stay on top of the pile.
As Jim Royle might say...

Whilst cycling down the canal this morning i approached a couple of ducks resting by the canal side. As i approached i proceeded with some caution in case of any sudden movements. As i passed the ducks, my concentration firmly on them should they suddenly try any suicide tactics, another couple of old ducks chugged by my very location headed in the opposite direction on their narrowboat. As i passed the ducks and they passed me, the old fellow steering the ship - without even glancing away from his steering duties - waved in mine and the ducks' direction.
Did he wave at me...or the ducks???? The ducks certainly didn't wave back. mmm

As a follower of the toon it pains me to see Titus Bramble in the starting line-up! The good news hopefully..is that his contract is up at the end of the season. He's nearly a great defender, and i don't like being harsh to players...but as one footballing writer put it...
"for 99% of the time plays like an accomplished footballer and for the other 1% is out in gaga-land on his own planet."

...of sorts. I kind of stood to one side of my lovely new shower cubicle as a fluctuation of ice cold and scalding hot water passed by my side...the trick was to splash as much water over my body as possible at the precise moment the water temperature crossed over! Oh it was fun!
Upon the return of the workmen, i politely explained the problem...to which he replied..."I ain't touched the shower...i'm not a plumber"...very helpful. After he messed with some screws n stuff it seemed to half work if you didn't turn it on fully...GREAT!
So now they have gone (and it didn't f***in work), gav gets his toolbox out. I took the shower off to discover the hot and cold channels were connected the wrong way round...now i'm not a plumber you'll realise. But i reckon that might be causing the shower not to work properly?? And for all you, "i'm not a plumber's" out there, a BIG BLUE sticker means cold and a BIG RED sticker means hot.

And whilst some parts of the club weren't as good as maybe they could have been, overall i was pretty impressed. The main room was just the right size...and although the beats were a little minimal for my liking, the sound system more than made up for it!!
Loving the strip lighting system too. If only as much thought had been put into everything else in the club!

Iceberg Lettuce.
I have nothing against the Iceberg lettuce, i eat him most days. But does anyone else have a problem with the way they are packaged in the supermarket?? I can never get the sellotape off and end up ripping all the plastic off to the point that it is no longer of any use. WHY can't they package it in something more user friendly. Even my half cucumbers get a nice custom wrapper!

Posted: 01-03-2007 10:49:38
I opened the curtains this very morning to see the dustmen on their weekly tour of my street. As i stood a moment baking in the early morning sunshine, one of the fluorescent jacket wearers hopped out the passanger seat to proceed with his duties that lay neatly bundled together down one side of the road. As he opened the door and jumped down unelegantly onto the road, an empty plastic bottle followed him slightly more elegantly into the middle of the road. The man's initial reaction was to gasp outward with his right arm in a desperate if not a little lerthagic attempt to catch the fleeing cylinder of plastic.
Alas, the bottle was too quick, it was halfway across the road before his reactions let him get near the path of the escaping container. In addition the blustery winds proceeded to sweep the bottle further away from the man. To add insult to injury, the bottle had now manouvered itself sideways, in prime position to take full advantage of the sloping street and by now the bottle was discharging itself from the dustman's reach.
The poor old dustman, employed to confiscate tonnes of household waste from our streets, couldn't do anything about litter that he was responsible for, so despite his job description and without a second look, he turned his back on the little present he left as it rolled out of site, and continued eating his bacon sandwich.
THE END.

Yeah alright...couldn't understand a bloody word!
It's so predictable....
Posted: 26-02-2007 16:38:36
...driving up the M6, you can almost guarantee that just past Stoke the clouds will turn a darker shade of grey and a light drizzle will ensue. Thereafter...a heavy burst of rain will greet you on passing the Greater Manchester regions...often in a "heavy shower" format. After a brief dry spell past Preston the atmosphere can go one of two ways on the descent to the coast.
1. Glorious sunshine with strong gales, or
2. Persistent, torrential rain with strong gales.
Whilst up there, i went to watch Blackpool FC vs Millwall. Much fighting was enjoyed after the match. All i saw was riot vans and police on horses galloping down the street amongst many short haired chaps with beige jackets. All good fun!

Cinema

With little else to do on Saturday evening, we decided to trolley over to a cinema to watch Th'Ot Fuzz. I don't ever remember going to the cinema of a Saturday night and now i know why.
After "sheer weight of traffic" forced us to park in a secluded part of the world, we trekked round to the front of the complex to be greeted by a huge queue of lovely locals. After sneaking round most of them to a far till, we were all ready some Hot Fuzz action. By the time we made it into the screen (past the urine aroma coming from the ladies), there were only really seats at the front.
But all was well, popcorn at the ready, neck arched upwards 90degrees cos we're directly under the screen...the films about to start. Then a couple of late comers sit next to me. The guy had the stinkiest tray of chips with him and sat right next to me shoving them in his gob! Honestly, cant you just eat popcorn in the pics no more...No...you can buy all sorts of American crap, spilling mustard everywhere, stinking the place out!! grrrr.
Film was alright once it got going...the fight scene at the end is genius.

Aparantly Huckerby should have been sent off in the first half before netting twice to ensure the mighty Blackpool wouldn't face Chelsea in the next round of the FA Cup, and i wouldn't be making the trip to London this Saturday.
Not only that, the Seasiders had a perfectly good goal disallowed in extra-time, which left only a Blackpool defensive cock-up in true Tangerine style to gift Nowrich the winner!
Never mind lads, we'll do em next season in The Championship!

It's been a while since my last weekend of partying...and i mean proper randomness! Needless to say i enjoyed myself. Big thanks to the boy Ridding for hosting the night...the beer flowed the dancing shoes came out, and i had a little dj too!
Although i don't remember all that much, i think it went ok, not sure if anyone was dancing, i was too preoccupied with trying to get the second cd player to work!
So although i lost most of Saturday...the weekend was rounded of in splendid style with the best pub sunday roast ever. The Plough in Harborne is my best kept secret for pub grub, everything is more than decent, oozing with home-made flavours and generally tastes like someone in the kitchen actaully cares! Loads of Beef, homemade yorkshire, roasted vegetables and gravy falling off the plate...thought i wor up north fo'a minute ther!

Racism is very wrong, and i agree that recent comments made in the Big Brother house by certain not so wit gifted individuals have been less than considered.
However, the consequential reactions by the media spurred by the bandwagon that is public opinion, spurred on by the media bandwagon, has since lead to worldwide chaos, losely based around comments refering to the colour of someone's skin, the country or culture they have come from and an Oxo cube!
In my mind, we are now caught in a vicious social cycle whereby so much emphasis is applied to not being racist, making sure that minority groups and people with various skin tones are catered for and not being excluded or discriminated against. That we are by default creating segregation between races.
So whilst i'm not here to judge or condemn anyone on whether they have or havn't made racial comments, i would ask those jumping about in rage at the slightest reference to a persons colour or culture to consider the wider issues, reasons and objectives in creating harmony among our fellow brothers and sisters.
I would however like to show my support for Mark's campaign against Miss Goody, not because of the colour of her skin...but because she's ugly!

How are you? I'm fine thanks, splendid festive Christmas i had too, thanks!
After the recently departed Stuart and I had a great last day's drinking session that lasted into the early hours...i chilled out for a couple of days before the madness began! Highlights included;
- my Mum's Xmas dinner.
- most of the food i consumed over the Xmas period.
- the moment my Dad realised he had bought lots of "alcohol free" Becks!!!
- Sitting directly behind the ball as it left leave James Milner's right boot and careered straight into the top corner at great speed.
- Being the first one to jump up and celebrate James Milner's screamer against Man Utd, as soon as the ball left his foot i knew it was in.
I've made a late entry into Cherry Chubber experiment, i won't be dieting though...just a little exercise!

Before travelling up to the North East for a 3 day break in Newcastle to celebrate New Year and more importantly Newcastle's New Years day victory over Man Utd.

Was great.
Friday...nuff said.
Saturday...went to the Jam House. Never been properly before, it's great watching some live music. I didn't quite understand some of the audience in there though. They got more excited by the cd's that were playing than the actual bands...who kept going for 15 minute breaks that actually lasted 45 minutes. Elbow etiquette among the over 30's in there was disgraceful, and they moan about the youth of today, their lairy antics on a few pints was just plain ridiculous. One pot bellied punter had to carried out by no less than seven doormen..."a leg and a wing anyone"! He kicked and screamed all the way out the fire exit kicking a bar stool and my girlfriend and i.
The venue is pretty poorly laid out too, they rob you on the door and then again at the bar.
Don't get me wrong i enjoyed myself.
Sunday...OCS @ the academy, fantastic. Loved it, they were spot on for me. Not been to a great gig for ages, perfect end to the weekend.

Well, England are at it again. For some reason, i am never comfortable with an English side being in front. I'm also guessing none of our teams are particularly comfortable with it either!
I reckon it's in our cultural make-up to be uncomfortable in front, we like being the underdogs...the team under the cosh. Then and only then do we seem to get a response...if we get our noses in front...we're stuffed!

...are my best day??
You know the half an hour after you wake up in the morning, you feel a bit groggy don't you!? Well, that is my Monday, for the whole day i feel like this dogammit! The boys in the office have started to pick up on this and they're teasing me!
In other news;
- Discussions over this side of the office centred around the term salad and it's exact meanings. A few definitions were thrown up, so i'm still unsure. The discussion was sparked by my "pasta salad" consisting of; pasta, tomato and tuna. I argued that my interpretation of any salad must surely contain lettuce...a prerequisite in my book.
Definitions on the net varied from a collection of sliced fruit and vegetables...to simply a varied mixture, or indeed a mixture or assortment of anything. For example, "The usual salad of writers, artists, and musicians attended the party".
Other, more recent slang meanings have arisen utilising the term salad....more creatively. For example, an "angry garden salad", is a phrase used to describe a poorly designed Web site GUI with incorrect code behind it (so that if you click on one thing it launches another. So there.
More creatively still..."a salad tosser" and "a tossed salad" have taken rather more unnecessary meanings!! I'll leave you to look them up for yourselves.
I like Tuesdays.
i challenge you...

Now cycle lanes are a great idea, i would love to see them everywhere. But in true British half arsed style, we seem to have ended up with several 20 metre cycle lanes per county!!
Not only do the cycle lanes last for about 20 metres...more often than not, they end rather sharply in the middle of an ever so busy, high speed, city centre roundabout or suchlike.

Greeting Cards.
Posted: 13-09-2006 16:18:35
I have nothing against greeting cards in general. Many of them provide a mildly amusing temporary restbite from the hell that is the town centre.
HOWEVER! After you've had a little chuckle at a few funny cards...it suddenly becomes very unfunny when you cant for the life of you find a card to suit a purpose! Now...my view is mostly, "oh that'll do", if the hunting process starts to drag on a bit.
BUT! If you happen to be with someone who cant bear to leave the shop without finding a perfectly suited card to it's purpose...then suddenly the whole greeting card experience can take a turn for the worse in my book. And when you find yourself on first name terms with most of the staff and the cd has looped past Liberty X...again....then you know you've been pottering in that bloody shop far too long!
See ya Clinton.

On a scale of 1 to 10, i had a pretty good weekend all in all. As a Virgin Virgin i wasn't all that sure what expect...2 hours down the M6 and 2 miles of treking through later i was ready for home. But we stuck it out and were rewarded.
Blinding sets from Faithless, The Go team and Fatboy Slim were the highlights of the weekend for me, if only i could have seen Kasabian and Radiohead aswell! Much more jumping, shouting and swearing sums up the rest of the of my time in Stafford.
Till next years festivals...but Branson ain't getting my hard earned cash again, he didn't work hard enough for it!

A proper football game
Posted: 05-07-2006 14:30:03
I've held off ranting about England's poor World Cup. But my thoughts have now been sufficiently collated and analysed.
My opinion all the way through the England campaign was that they weren't playing well enough, yet some consensus suggested that it was ok because we were winning and strongly poised to gather momentum.
That would have been all very well if indeed we had decided upon gathering any of the aforementioned momentum...but no, not until the chips were down could we muster any of the lion's courage our team's drunken following exube!
This got me thinking...whether...if we had gone on to win the competition without playing particularly well, would we be satisfied. I for one would rather we had got knocked in the first round as long as my team had played exciting football. I could carry that into forthcoming competitions as a torch of hope.
That said, the English footballing representative of 11 men at least have the capabilities to play football in much the same way the German and Italian 11's displayed last night in Stuttgart. Some of the football on display was a lesson to even the best. The skill, concentration, passion and shear speed of thought and play on the pitch last night was phenomenal. Yet we have become accustomed to such footballing styles, week in week out in this ere Premiership.
Why can Gerrard and Lampard play so amazing in the season...and not deliver during the World Cup...do they miss their mum's? I dunno!
I think we suffered in the heat...we just aren't accustomed to it. Us Brits have trouble sleeping when it's humid, never mind running! Moreover we have trouble playing football like the Italians did last night...wanting the ball, keeping the ball! We are allowed to pass the ball shorter than 40yards boys.
It's such a simple bloody game...add some English passion, drop any big names that aren't on form (Lampard) and let the public vote in the next English manager and i think we'll make progress!!
ciao bella

So the world's gone mad with football adverts, extensions of football adverts and of course beer adverts to coincide with the mass marketing celebration that is the world cup!
But whilst some advertisers and their brands have got it so so right there's one that is rubbish!
Loving the new Guiness extra cold adverts featuring edited snippets from the evolution of man in his 3 billion year wait for the perfect pint!
The Coca-Cola ad is good, my girlfriend bursts into fits of laughter time after time. Fancy man in wardrobe hugs husband...genius!
The overplayed Carling advert gets a post match interview.
The Honda "dream" ad gets the Come On England treatment!
There's the usual super skillfull footballers showing off their skills...YAWN!
The Carlsberg "probably the best pub team" ad is brilliant, you have to watch the full 3:02 minute version
However there is one ad letting the whole side down. The idea that somehow watching the world cup final on a Samsung flatscreen is better than going to the actual game is more than a little preposterous.

England "can" play football. Well Ian wasn't worried. I actually quite enjoyed the game, mostly because Ecuador never actually looked like getting close to scoring, although Robinson made me feel nervous at times. But Hargreaves ain't all that bad, Rooney's looking hot, Ashley Cole's looking sharp again and that Tweedy's looking quite fit too, (more crowd shots please!)
That honda ad is up on youtube now so watch it if you havn't seen it yet...it's great!

Well after a week off, our last game of the season was played yesterday. To finish second we needed to draw against fourth place, so to make sure we thrashed them 6-1. The boy Auty even got on the scoresheet, my first of the season, on the day our top scorer notched up his 41st of the season!
In addition, there's a rumour flying about that champions dont want to go up so we're definetly promoted!

Woo look at me utilising all three lanes to provide other cars the opportunity to pass, thus reducing the amount of conjestion, reducing my average journey time by 10 days!
Whats funnier is that some motorways have had millions spent on them to reduce conjestion....yet these bloody morons just dont know what to do! There's 2 MIDDLE LANES, i hear them cry! But never fear common sense prevails and they choose lane 3 to toodle along at 70!

I was blown away by Arsenal's performance against Juve last night...it was like watching Brazil play five-a-size! Some of the football was amazing to watch & seeing an ageing Italian team try to keep up with them was so amusing at times.
Now although the gunners once again failed to side one Englishman, and despite the fact they aren't my favourite team in the world...i can only admire their performance last night, & you cant help but like Mr Va-va-voom himself Terry Henry!

ARTHUR:
The swallow may fly south with the sun or the house martin or the plover may seek warmer climes in winter, yet these are not strangers to our land?
SOLDIER #1:
Are you suggesting coconuts migrate?
ARTHUR:
Not at all. They could be carried.
SOLDIER #1:
What? A swallow carrying a coconut?
ARTHUR:
It could grip it by the husk!
SOLDIER #1:
It's not a question of where he grips it! It's a simple question of weight ratios! A five ounce bird could not carry a one pound coconut.
ARTHUR:
Well, it doesn't matter. Will you go and tell your master that Arthur from the Court of Camelot is here?
SOLDIER #1:
Listen. In order to maintain air-speed velocity, a swallow needs to beat its wings forty-three times every second, right?
ARTHUR:
Please!
SOLDIER #1:
Am I right?
ARTHUR:
I'm not interested!
SOLDIER #2:
It could be carried by an African swallow!
SOLDIER #1:
Oh, yeah, an African swallow maybe, but not a European swallow. That's my point.
SOLDIER #2:
Oh, yeah, I agree with that.
ARTHUR:
Will you ask your master if he wants to join my court at Camelot?!
SOLDIER #1:
But then of course a-- African swallows are non-migratory.
SOLDIER #2:
Oh, yeah.
SOLDIER #1:
So, they couldn't bring a coconut back anyway.
[clop clop clop]
SOLDIER #2:
Wait a minute! Supposing two swallows carried it together?
SOLDIER #1:
No, they'd have to have it on a line.
SOLDIER #2:
Well, simple! They'd just use a strand of creeper!
SOLDIER #1:
What, held under the dorsal guiding feathers?
SOLDIER #2:
Well, why not?
Now tell me you're not smirking!

Busy was i. Saturday, up at 7 to go paintballing on a stag day. Much fun was had, i didn't care enough to be any good at it. Some of the guys there took it far too seriously. The amount of testosterone flying about was far more dangerous than any paintball!
Our team won the days events naturally, so all was good...although we bailed out before the last game, partly because we were all shattered & partly because we wanted to drink "booze"!
So after a long day in the woods, off up Broad Street we marched to drink "booze". The stag wasn't looking too healthy by half 8 and as we had a football game Sunday morning and he's our captain....it was probably just as well he bailed out for a curry and bed at 11. Infact most of the twenty strong stag party were ready for a bed time story by midnight, and although four of us carried on till half one...were virtually sleeping in our pints.
So bright and early Sunday morning...the boys were all well up for the game, honest. Despite our bad heads we only managed a 7-1 victory over one of our closest rivals, which still leaves a chance at the title. If the top team fails to win their last game n we win our last 4 games....then its ours, ALL OURS!!!
cheeky.

Comprised of the highly acclaimed producer/dj DangerMouse (never 'erd o' 'im) and some dude who apparently hasn't been all that hot until now. This stuff is awesome, from what i've heard there's actually some thought gone into it, and it just works. The first single from the album "Crazy" is class and is on radio type machines at the mo.
Listen out for it, it makes me dance...which is obviously a good thing for everyone!

Watched at the cinema, it's a 15, but i still expected to see more pop corn throwing and giggling, and general spoiling of the movie by big groups of teenagers. Instead the cinema was filled by young to middle age couples, students and twenty somethings.
Im still not quite sure what i thought, it didn't feel like i was watching a movie...possibly because im not sure it was entertaining!
At the same time it was brilliant, the film looks fantastic and tackles issues that just need to be tackled. It's too easy to brand it a glorification of violence etc etc, when really it's just an easy way to sweep the problem under the carpet and pretend it doesn't exist.
But this is supposedly how it is, although some of the stereotyping is a little one sided, but that can be forgiven! So i'm not quite sure what the film achieves, but i think it's a step in the right direction.
